Signe Wilkinson Cartoon from 2016-09-14

When public school revenues come from local property taxes, they’re not really so public anymore. As is the policy in Vermont, there should be state-wide contribution to a common pool, so that every child may receive an adequate education, without economically restricted communities augmenting their lavish investment in their children with more state dollars they don’t need.

Also, when busing is cut, and children no longer have choice in where they attend, schools become segregated, and segregation in schools in the US is now worse than it was before the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.
